Getting chewed out and called "disrespectful" is really the pick-me-up I needed tonight! A perfect start to the second half of my week, which will mostly be spent working. Life can be hilarious sometimes.

How is it that ever since I moved to Brooklyn I have felt more isolated and lonely than ever before (or at least since my college days)? I just wish I could get out of the city for a few days and clear my head... I wish so badly that I could go up north again (and by "up north", I am referring to Northern Minnesota). I need a break from New York.

Sitting alone in a bar, drinking PBR and listening to Elliott Smith while on the verge of tears wasn't exactly how I imagined it would be to live in one of the greatest cities in this country.

But at least I get to visit home in a little under 5 weeks. I hope that renews my spirits somewhat.

I neglected this thing for a while.

It's midterm time.

So my grades are as follows:
A
A
B (that professor claimed she gave us all a B at midterms because she didn't agree with giving out grades at this point, haha.)
UE ("Unable to evaluate" - this is what they give you when your midterm exam doesn't happen before the deadline which professors are required to submit midterm standing by - but I got a 100 on the first half of our midterm after the fact. Still waiting on the grade from the second, take-home half of that midterm exam.)

So, I guess that means I am pleased. I also found out I got an A- on the midterm exam for one of the classes I had an A in before actually taking the midterm, haha.

Halloween was fantastic - King Khan and BBQ at the Bell House, and then the Vice Magazine party at some warehouse in Brooklyn. We RSVPed but ended up sneaking in thanks to the kind heart of a security guard who happened to be posted next to a door we just so happened to be standing next to. Or, and Andy says, "I'm lucky". He might be, because I'm certainly not....

I am finally making new friends and having a good time going out and experiencing new things in the city, which makes me happy. This is mostly a result of drinking alcohol again. (haha...)

HOWEVER: I will state that I am very ready to come home for winter break from Dec 22nd- Jan 1st. I miss Minneapolis.

I hope all is well with my Minneapolis friends and my friends elsewhere in the country (especially Donny, as I know he is going through some rough times right now.)

Listening to Bob Dylan in NYC just isn't the same.

...but I don't have all that much to say, really. School is going alright, but very busy. I have to do classroom observations (30 hours this semester) which means I have to reschedule everything to make room for it, which is interrupting my work schedule and causing me to have little to no free time. Ah well. I think my favorite instructor so far is DeFazio, he is a lively character and his course is fun and engaging.
I might go see the Twins play the Yankees on Friday, too. Go Twins! I guess I DO get out of the house once in a while...

This is my new neighborhood, East Harlem (also called Spanish Harlem by some.) According to Wikipedia, the neighborhood boundaries are Harlem River to the north, the East River to the east, East 96th Street to the south, and 5th Avenue to the west.

Lately, I have been a little obsessed with the New York City subway system.

I found a really awesome subway website that attempts to host pictures of every subway stop for every line (they have a lot of them covered, but not all of them.) This will be the subway stop I use to get to NYU:
